After the rain
For half an hour the city keeps two skies: one overhead and one broken across the pavement.
The rain stopped near Töölö Bay just before nine. Water stayed in the seams of the granite and collected beneath the lindens, where the leaves released a second, softer shower whenever the wind moved through.
Along the path, runners returned first. Bicycles followed. The gulls remained on the grass, unhurried, while the last grey cloud moved east above the station.
By the time the tram crossed Mannerheimintie, the low sun had reached the upper windows. At street level the evening still belonged to rain.
